To realize is to make real, just like to homogenize is to make homogeneous, to categorize is to make into categories, and to capitalize is to make capital.
By realizing, or recognizing, what is good around us, we make goodness real in our experience here and now; we “real-ize” it. And we should realize God’s presence, power, love, mercy, goodness, and control in order to feel them in our lives. How is that done?
I’ve found that when I become cognizant of God’s qualities here and now – when I look beyond matter and realize God’s divine nature around me that it has a positive effect on my life.
As Paul wrote to the Philippians (See Phil 4:8), “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” In proportion to our ability to do that, good is manifested and we and others see it too.
In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, (261:6), she writes, “Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.”
Let’s realize the good that surrounds us today!
